looking foolish – Re-Fabbed

David had just been crowned as king of Israel. He had captured Jerusalem and defeated the Philistines. Now he and his men were going to move the ark from the pact to Jerusalem. In the Old Testament, the ark of the covenant was seen as a treasure and, ultimately, as the presence and blessing of God for people. This was a big problem for David and people. God had blessed David by naming him as king and defeating his enemies. Now, David wanted to honor that by bringing them the ark.

“But when the Lord’s ark entered the city of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked down from his window. When he saw King David jumping and dancing before the Lord, he was full of contempt for him.” 2 Samuel 6:16

Michal was Saul’s daughter, but she was also David’s first wife. When he looked out his window and saw David Joyous and praising the Lord, he despises him. She didn’t like the way he was worshiping in front of people. When David returned home later, he did not maintain this contempt in his heart, but he expressed it openly to him.

“When David returned home to bless his own family, Michal, Saul’s daughter, went out with him. She said disgust: ‘ The people of the Lord, so I celebrate before the Lord, and I am willing to look even more silly than this, even to be humiliated in my own eyes! ”2 Samuel 6: 20-22aa.

Michal confronted him and David had no blow. Michal was critical and full of contempt for the way David was worshiping, but David didn’t care. David was worshiping his lord and didn’t care how he looked at others. I was worshiping for an audience of one. He basically told Michal that he was willing to seem even more silly and humiliated in his own eyes if that is what was needed to praise God. David didn’t care about his position or the way others saw him, he only cared about the true worship.

So what is me? Do I look more like David who is willing to worship in any way necessary to praise the Lord or I like Michal and restricting me and others because of my judgment and criticism? The interesting thought is that both people looked silly, one in the eyes of another human who judged worship and the other in the eyes of a loving father yearning genuine praise. What kind of fool will we choose?
