My Michigan-to-Canada Adventure – Neckies Great Adventures

Summer is practically playing at our door, so tell me, what adventures call your name? I obtain your special eye, are you trapped in that family cycle of creating re -desire lists of epic travel that somehow never leave the page? (Yes, I see you nodding, we have all been there!)

Canada continued advancing in my conversations this year. Every time someone mentioned it, he obtained that little spark of curiosity, began to investigate and maybe even marks some hotels … then life would happen. But this weekend of the Fallen Day, I finally stopped putting excuses when my cousin, which is from Flint, Michigan, mentioned that I was planning a visit to see some relatives. It was not until I decided to join him for the trip that our adventure of three cities was really in motion: prepare Flint and Detroit and even cross the border towards Windsor, Ontario, together.

Now, before you think we are some weekend warriors crowding too much in 72 hours, listen to me! The beauty of this trio lies in how perfectly they are placed for an adventure of several cities, with my cousin based on flint that serves as the ideal guide. Imagine this: Flint sits approximately one hour north of Detroit, and from the center of Detroit, you are 10 minutes by car through the tunnel (or on the ambassador bridge if you feel elegant) before climbing to the Canadian floor in Windsor. The three are close, where you can enjoy three very different experiences with someone who knows the area well.

Flint, Michigan: Jazz vibrations that hit different

Let me tell you about this incredible articulation of jazz in which I ran into Flint, the type of place that makes you feel as if you have entered a different time. The music was electric, and the people in the area put everything in each song. There is something magical in listening to happy music in a city that has gone through a lot but still has a lot of life. The mood was cozy and authentic, like the type of place where people who do not know each other, but love good music become friends. If you are a music lover, this is only worth the trip to Flint.

Detroit: Magol magic that transcends time

Detroit hit me directly on my legs, especially during my visit to the Motown Museum. Walking through those halls where legends such as Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder and Jackson 5 recorded their timeless successes. What caught my attention was the wall with images of all Motown artists. Although music was from a different time, I felt a strong feeling of nostalgia, as if music and history transport me back in time. There is an incredible environment in that place; You can feel the passion and talent that shapes American music forever.

Windsor, Ontario: A world completely different from just a few minutes

Things went crazy when we crossed Windsor, Ontario. It was like going to a different world, although they were just 15 minutes from Detroit! Everything changes as soon as you cross that line. Everything is very Canadian: accents, money and mood. I found myself smiling like an idiot just because I was in another country that I could practically see from where I had stopped in Detroit. The riverbank in Windsor offers this beautiful view of the Detroit horizon, and there is something almost like a dream in looking at the city that you just left a completely different nation.

The best moment: put everything together

But honestly? To account for how easy it is to feel three very different vibrations in a weekend was the best part of my trip. From the moving jazz scene in Flint to Detroit’s musical history and Canada’s kind charm, he felt like the perfect cultural dish. It is incredible how many types of events can be found in such a small area.

Trust me; These three should be at the top of your list if you are looking for your next trip and wants to see many different things with little stress. You will learn about the past of music, visit other countries, eat delicious food and make memories that will last a lifetime. And he will not have to spend a lot of money or half of his vacation at airports.

Now, really, what stops you? Your Canadian adventure could be just a weekend!
