Our Italy Adventure: Cinque Terre & Portofina

Our adventure in Italy continues when we moved from Florence to the city of Rapallo, where we would stay for 3 nights, visiting Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre, which means 5 cities, are old fishing villages at the top of the Italian Riviera, with picturesque views of the water and those colorful buildings dotted throughout this area. It reminds me a little of Amalfi’s coast, with equally rocky and steep cliff structures. It is a really beautiful part of Italy and this was my first time in this region. You can walk, take a train or a ferry to get town to town. The five villages are Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. We went to 3 villages, so I will share some photos of each one. This was a quick look at Cinque Terre, but I am very happy to have experienced it for a day. We also took a Portofino boat and that was a pleasure! It was as beautiful as I thought it would be.

Rapallo

We stayed at the Europa Hotel in Rapallo and it was very pleasant and comfortable. Breakfast was courtesy in all hotels in which we stayed and all were delicious.

Riomaggiore

We took a rapallo train to Riomaggiore, our first stop along Cinque Terre and it was a rainy day, so we all take umbrella. It was not a hard downpour thanks to God, but a brumious rainy day. It was still beautiful, even in the rainy climate.

I love all the resistant natural beauty of this area, with wild flowers that grow out of rocks.

Isn’t this so beautiful? We only had a little time in each town, so we walked to the picturesque places for photos, I had coffee and headed to the next village.

Photos between rain drops. I just worship all the houses in Italy and how all those colors complete a beautiful image.

My new friend, Susan (who lives in Marietta) and me. We met at the Viking River Cruise the past fall and she and her sister -in -law also joined us for this trip. They are so fun and sweet women.

Zoom, this is where we were. It was a bit scary, since there was nothing that prevented us from falling into the water.

More scenic beauty. I am sure that it is fun to walk from one town to another, but I will leave it to the youngest set. Give me a ferry any day.

More selfies.

And one more.

Awesome injured coast. That is the line to go down to the water to address the following ferry.

I took many photos, but fortunately I am only showing you some. We would be here all day in another way!

More resistant rocks.

A lonely seagull in search of food.

Views from the ferry leaving Riomaggiore.

VERNAZZA

We had time to walk a little in each town and have lunch in Monterosso.

This town was also very beautiful. Do you see all the terraces to the left where they plant vineyards?

It was all I could do to calm myself and not eat everything in sight! I ended up receiving a pesto and tomato sandwich before lunch.

I loved this view!

Street scenes.

Pretending that he was going up this path on the hillside to a restaurant above while we waited for the ferry.

More beauty of the hills.

Monterosso

We arrived in Monterosso and we had lunch here, which was very pleasant. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a good day outdoors for lunch.

He saw this work of art on the road, I loved it!

Inside the restaurant where we ate was this beautiful sink in the bathroom. There is so beautiful stone in Italy. We ate in Ristorante Da Ely and it was very good.

Here is a look at some of the food we ate during this stretch of the trip. Delicious, right?

On the street, that is Mark walking.

Lemons along the way.

Outdoor seats in restaurants.

Leaving Monterosso

Our next stop was Sestri washing, a pretty city on the coast and had lunch before the group.

We walk through the city a little before lunch and take some panoramic photos. Glycinia was flourishing completely throughout Italy and was quite impressive.

An example of small cars throughout Italy.

I loved these blue and white stripes in the boats.

Each path had a scenic view.

Several of us walked together and stopped in this sweet store.

As you can see, that is Mark’s vice, he loves sweets, especially cream filling cakes.

A beautiful building along the way.

We have lunch here, but inside.

This was so beautiful on the way to our lunch table.

Back to Ferry in Rapallo and then we took a ferry to Portofino, one of the stops I expected most. I have seen it in movies and looked impressive.

While we navigate in the small port, it was impressive to assimilate.

I loved Portofino and I could have stayed here for a few days.

The colorful buildings were abundant.

He is so picturesque and beautiful, as in a movie scene.

THE Selfie OP.

Beautiful from all angles.

Portofino was beautiful and, although we were only there for a couple of hours, it was fun to see it.

I can’t have enough laundry hanging from the windows. I loved 35 years ago and I love it now.

Portofino was full of people, but I imagine Summer is full of tourists.

I am so happy to have been able to visit Portofino.

There were many stores on this pretty catwalk.

And the fresh product was simply impressive. This returned to Rapallo.

These next two photos are also rapallo. We enjoyed walking a little here and we had a great pizza in one of the restaurants.

Such a fun part of our trip and I am very happy to have seen Cinque Terre and Portofino. Each of these picturesque cities and towns was simply incredible to see. The natural beauty of Italy can not be replicated anywhere and we both fell in love a little more about this visit!

The last part of our trip that I will cover is Lake as. There were 9 of us who stayed more than 2 more nights in Lake as for the extension and I am very happy to have done it. What a gift was that place! Return next week for that! I hope you are enjoying our trip from Italy, I have enjoyed sharing everything.
