Have you ever felt that you were “trapped” in a house that doesn’t work well for your family, or that you feel all Do you need to change? You feel frustrated, overwhelmed or even discouraged where to start making changes, which could mean that you would like your home … Maybe not everything, but I imagine that some part of this image resonates with you, and there is hope! There are things that can make, and changes that can make them help it not only, but I love the house it has.
This photo taken from our house last fall makes me smile (do you see Amazon’s delivery?). It is the view that I have from my new office area and the warm night lighting and the beautiful autumn leaves caught my attention. It is a simple brick house with some great features, and we love it. It is also an older house and needs some work. Did you notice the missing bricks under the window? That complete section must be replaced. If you have had an older house, you are familiar with that endless list of repairs … but that’s fine, we love our house.

When we bought this house, it came with some great features and some characteristics not as cold ~ such as the 80’s wallpaper. But it was determined to infuse our house with the style of the English country house that I love. Then I did what I could. The more you invest in your home (cleaning, organization, repair, improvement), the more emotionally connected and satisfied, and the more you will return your home to you, your family and your friends. If you have been near the blog/channel for a while, you will have heard and seen the elimination of the wallpaper and the history of the English rolled arm sofa, which together have marked a marked difference in how cozy and pleasant this room is now!
When you love the house you have and you do the best it can be, it will inspire your life in unexpected ways.

I did not know when the spice shelf for the first time in the photo above in the second -hand store that this would be the first of the three iterations of our kitchen. I only knew that it gave us a place to store spices so that they do not stay behind the stove!

When navigating an antique store one day, Matt and I find this reflected shelf. It was more pleasant than the anterior spice shelf and the shelf was wide enough to hold the spode spice jars ~ Now this was pretty! In addition, the mirror caused the kitchen to seem bigger and brilliant. I was excited with this little improvement and had no idea what the Lord had in mind for our kitchen years later …

This kitchen still surprises me. We never tire of that and we have made so many wonderful memories cooking together and sharing meals with friends. Waiting, and going through the process was worth it!
Still … I can get frustrated how long the process can take! If sometimes you get anxious, like me, here are some encouraging thoughts:
Change your home ~ Take measures!
- Take measures through cleaning, disorder and organization are under your control! Focusing on what you can Change it relieves waiting discipline. Taking action is at your control, it makes waiting easier.
- Taking measures brings hope. Do you know that feeling when you move away from an area that was driving you crazy and is better? It is possible that the function simplifying the things stored there, or can simply have repainted a small wall. But the improvement gives life to your heart lover of the home?
- Changing your home simply gives you new ideas. Sometimes we can try new things without buying anything or remodeling. Reorganize furniture. Hang the art somewhere different. Rethink the purpose of a room or the corner of a room. Sometimes, these small (or large) experiments will solve problems in creative ways that lead to a deliciously more functional and pleasant home.
- This is an initial result of the previous three. While trying things, you can discover a new way of doing things, a new way of life that changes your furniture selection, your room design or color scheme. This is a very fun part of your trip at home. You are literally “practicing” the best way to live in your home!
- By practicing new and better ways of living in your home, you will develop your design muscle. This is a natural result of your efforts. If “you play with your home”, you will learn more about what you like, what works to entertain and how your family already like to live.
- Taking measures of all these forms will save money. Do what I can with what you have and experiment at home will give you the data you need to make well -informed design decisions. This will reduce the riddles and errors that you may have had in a design decision in a room without “practicing” how you like to live your family.

There is something incredibly rewarding to transform a space with its own hands. I love your home by choosing to work within its limitations, be that time, money or skill.
Do it for others. Do it for you. Do it around the house, but do it!
